It was more interesting, more thrilling, and moved along at a pace that helped hold the tension in place throughout the entire book.

Overall, Howey’s character management in this book was phenomenal, and good characterization is something I really rely on (and heavily scrutinize) in order to enjoy a novel.In terms of the plot, I found Dust far better thought out than Shift. Characters from the previous two books come together, work together, fight each other, kill each other - in what is a relatively short novel, an incredible number of relationships are created, developed, and destroyed. Howey ramps up the pace, the stakes, and the action in Dust. slow clap-I was a little let down by Shift, if you remember, but I had high hopes for this installment of the series turns out they were well-founded hopes. It takes a bit of digging to understand why, and he tries to redeem his mistakes.Wasn't really impressed with this, it was kind of obvious where it was going form the 2nd book, but didn't explain well enough the diversions it took to get there. Meanwhile Donny finds himself awake again, something that he never expected to happen. Eliza (I don't know why suddenly the insights of a 6yr old are considered important) finds a Puppy. Some of it is thrown in as religion, the least well explored and hastiest sections of the book. Juliet gets to do lots of things she's always wanted to - although not without opposition. The plot follows all the characters from the previous books - Juliet, Donny and Jimmy's youngest adoptee Eliza as events all around Silo 18 (and 17) come together. The timeframe is never properly explained either. However I'm not happy with the explanation, and especially not with it as a global response.

Motivations that had been clearly explained are changed and glossed over.That said it does finish the series off reasonably well with an understanding of what was originally intended and how it has 'gone wrong' or not in the process.

Too many people are introduced for a fragment of a scene and then abandoned again. This leads to many scenes not working properly, with leaders being far too charismatic and carrying crowds with them at little reason. But in contrast to the previous two volumes it's very rushed! The author's decided where he's going and now quickly speeds through lots of action to get us there. Looking at how the characters from Wool and Shift bring about their futures, why they where there, and what happens after.
